Be careful what you say, you may be offending the listener.

Be careful what you say, you may be offending the listener.   When it comes to communication, the objective is to make the listener gets our message.

What if the message offends the listener?    Let me share a hypothetical situation:

Some visitors ate without plates.  The house owner was not very happy because of the crumbs falling on the table and the floor.  She immediately reacts and scolded the visitors asking them to use a plate instead of eating like a dog.

The message is to use plates so they don’t have to clean up the crumbs afterwards.  However, the visitors took offend and accused the hostess for calling them dogs.

Should the visitors be offended and made such and made such accusation?    What is your opinion?
