Unlike so many boys I know and especially those who are young, I liked reading a lot. I liked reading so much that it almost felt like it was an in born characteristic that was not distinct from myself. I was so into books that were loaded with tastes of curiosity and adventure. Those books that worked my brain putting it into full gear were my best companions. They worked my brain to the point of almost tasting the raw curiosity. It was definitely through this reading that I met this character who was way above the other characters I had the chance of meeting. He was Slappy Dummy.
As is often with nature and its young, curiosity drives them into what can only be termed as a six sense of what is mischievous. The evil nature of Slappy Dummy is something that I could identify with. I do not know if it was just something that every boy felt but I was blown away by the nature of this cHaracter. Curved from wood that ws previously a coffin and to make matters worse, curved by a sorceror, Slappy was definitely evil. When certain words were said, he came alive and all hell broke loose. The excitement still grips me. He is a leading character in Goosebumps.
Mr. Wood was his brothe. Curved from the same cursed wood, he very unfortunately died. The effect of this was that Slappy became even more evil. Twice as evil as he was previously. I would not be sure of what this felt being curved from wood and the only brother you have dies. The sorceror must have had this planned out for he was the origin of the evil that was the wood curving that usually came to life. This was the most captivating reading of my childhood.
