Everyone tells you to be what makes you happy, but when it comes to reality, you need to BE where the money is.
All of us have been told that we can be whatever we want to be when we grow up. And it’s true. But as we grow older, our career choices change and we develop a sense of what we really want to do with our lives. The thing is, there is more to think about than just what we will enjoy doing for the rest of our lives. We also have to consider the financial aspect. How come the teachers never taught that in school?
In today’s world, finances are everything. There is no more “free” or “cheap”, it’s just money. And when choosing a career, we must think about the money in order to survive in this world. There are so many things to think about; how steady the job will be, will it pay enough for myself and a potential family to live off of? Unfortunately, that’s not always the case with the career you truly want.
You might find that you will have to choose a path where you are guaranteed security. Then, maybe, if you have the time, do the career you want to do on the side as a part-time position. You won’t necessarily be happy, but you have to be where the money is at.
It’s something to think about if you are researching options for your future. I just don’t want you to be where I stand today, broke beyond repair because I wanted to be what makes me happy.
