We are, by this message, called to play our own role and not pretend to be like others when we are not.
Imitation causes limitation. No one ever copied an imitation and became original. Only originals are copied! Don’t become a trailer; let others follow your trail for a chance. Les Brown advising said, “Go never there’s no path and leave a trail”. God never created anyone to be a follower (Genesis 1:26). Myles Munroe commented, “Trapped in every follower is a leader”. Dare to see yourself an original. Don’t become a slave to someone else vision; be who you are; it gives you a sense of responsibility. Be who you are, it gives you a sense of fulfillment! As expressed by Fedrick Klipstock, “He who has no opinions of his own, but depends on the opinions of others is a slave. To only dream of the person you are”. I remember the story of the “little wristwatch” that told its owner, “I want to be up there with the big clock where everyone will see me”.
The owner took it off, tied a rope to it and had it pulled up to the big clock but because of the height, it soon became insignificant and could not be seen. Sure enough, it cried to be brought back down. Trying to be someone else will only make you second best! All good things existing today are fruits of originality. The bible says, “That the hypocrite reigns not lest the people be ensnared” (Job 34:30 KJV). An African proverb puts it best, “wood may stay ten years in water, but it never becomes a crocodile”. To David Crayson, “All the discontented people I know are trying to be something they are not, to do something they cannot do”. Concerning what God has to say, “Man is more interested than men. It’s him not them whom God made in His Image. Each is more precious than all”. Want some advice on who to copy? Look in the mirror! Remember this; it is better you live as your own man than a fool in someone else dream. Now be original!
