Bharat Ratna has been the highest civilian award in India awarded to those people for their great achievements which is not only restricted to an Indian only. Nelson Mandela from South Africa, a great figure, was too awarded with the Bharat Ratna. There has been a wide debate ranging in India whether it is right to award the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar with the Bharat Ratna!!!

Bharat Ratna Award

Bharat Ratna has been the highest civilian award in India awarded to those with the highest degrees in various fields such as for scientific achievements, literature and arts. The Bharat Ratna Award was launched on 2nd January, 1954 by the first President of India Rajendra Prasad which can be awarded not only to an Indian but also to other foreign dignitaries for their great achievements in their fields.

A numbers of Indians as well as other people such as Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Nelson Mandela from various countries have also been awarded with the Bharat Ratna.

The Sports Ministry and the Home Ministry of India had recommended the name of Sachin Tendulkar, the Mater Blaster for awarding him with the Bharat Ratna. Sachin Tendulkar has been famous not only in India but also through out the world over and had to struggle hard to reach at the highest level. Sachin Tendulkar had been the leading run-scorer and century maker in Test and One-day Internationals.

Though Sachin Tendulkar’s name had been recommended by both the Home & the Sports Ministry for the Bharat Ratna, there has already been a wide debate ranging in India as to whether it is right to award the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar with the Bharat Ratna as sports has still not been included under the ambit of awarding the Bharat Ratna. When the Bharat Ratna could be given to a number of film makers and actors and when the film industry could come under this category why can’t sports too be included under its ambit too?

The Indian government need to take a good look into this aspect and should immediately include sports under the ambit of the Bharat Ratna as today most people do make a career out of sports too.
