Any kind of information serves as food for thought and the following is no exception.
Any kind of information should serve as food for thought such as the following:
Living descendants of dinosaurs
In 1995, fossils discovered in parts of China reveal that birds are descended directly from dinosaurs, one of which being a primitive bird called Confuciusornis, derived from the name, Confucius, a Chinese philosopher. The discovery further obviates the fact that the bird was a feathered dinosaur that showed traces of cell structures with pigments. Some feathered dinosaurs had wings but could not fly, such as today’s ostriches and penguins.
Survival of endangered orangutans
Studies and statistics reveal that palm oil companies in Indonesia and Malaysia are contributing to the elimination of more than 3,000 orangutans each year because of the destruction of rain forests, for the purpose of planting palm trees, thus raising the possibility of extinction if this horrific act continues. These are companies that are engaged in the lucrative business of palm oil which they export to many countries.
A mindless act
In 2001, in a remote village in Afghanistan, the Taliban destroyed a couple of colossal statues of the Buddha. When Islam conquered that part of Afghanistan in the eighth century, a Muslim conqueror destroyed relics of the Buddha, including a famous monastery, but overlooked these two colossal 1,500-year old statues of the Buddha which was still intact. Now that the two remaining statues are destroyed by fanatical extremists, the last, remaining archaeological relics of history are lost forever.
An interesting discovery
