Biographical information                                         Bob Geldof began his career as the lead singer of a Punk Rocker group  called the Boomtown Rats in the mid 70’s. The group had a few hit singles. By 1984 the career of the band declined sharply. After watching a BBC documentary about poverty in Ethiopia, Bob Geldof was so saddened and he wanted to help stop world hunger. What did he do? In 1985 he wrote a song “Do they know  it Christmas time” and organised a free concert with numerous of famous singers to raise money for the aid of these people in Ethiopia. The live aid concert raised millions of dollars. Then in 2005, Bob Geldof  along with a number of other famous artist like Elton John, Madonna and the Rolling Stones held the Live 8 Concerts to raise money and give the ordinary people a chance to help fight poverty in Africa. This was very successful and it raised millions of dollars changing the lives of many African people. Bob Geldof’s  achievements gave him an honorary Knighthood, and  he is known as “Sir Bob Geldof”. How did he act with courage? His courage, determination and hard work helped save  thousands of lives. He had the strength and courage to stand up and show the world how these people live. He made  the world aware of how bad and sad the people in Africa live.What can we learn from him. His mission to help world hunger in poor countries will continue to  encourage others to join in and help. Bob Geldof  teaches us that one man can make such a difference to peoples lives.
