The reader learns that on February 10, 1931, a second child was born into Linus’s family. They had a son named Peter, and a year later, they had a daughter named Linda. Shortly after this, it is learned that Linus had received an award for being the most promising young research chemist by the American Chemical Society. While at the CIT, Linus studied asbestos and found that it was made of fibers. He thought that a lot of things could be made of fibers, like human body tissue, so he decided to research that. Soon Linus decided to experiment with the fact that human body tissue was made up of fibers. He found that to make up fibers, one needed proteins, this research eventually ended up being part of medical procedure which made it so children did not go blind.
