Caloocan City government warned the public that it will closely keep an eye on its campaign against individuals who are peddling prohibited kinds of firecrackers as Holiday Seasons nearly approach.

Caloocan City mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri strictly ordered the local police including the members of the Reformed Department of Public and Safety and Traffic Management (RDPSTM) and other departments to closely monitor vendors in markets as well as other commercial areas for possible presence of prohibited firecrackers.

The local police enumerated among the banned firecrackers such as watusi and piccolo which are popular among children that pose a serious health risk to them particularly when these are accidentally ingested.

Moreover, the city government also outlaws the selling of powerful types of firecrackers which could cause casualty and damages to the property of residents.

Earlier, the Department of Health (DOH) issued a warning concerning the harmful effects of illegal firecrackers to the body especially to children who might treat watusi and piccolo as a fatal snack.

The Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) has been sternly advising residents to refrain from using firecrackers during Christmas and New Year festivities because the fire incident is among the perils of using firecrackers.

Echiverri, also, warned the peddlers of illegal firecrackers to put a stop to their trade or else risk facing the appropriate charges.

He stressed, “Let us put into consideration the safety of others when selling these firecrackers. We shouldn’t endanger the lives of other people and even that of our own family just for the sake of measly profit.”
