For my part, I had decided a fragrance would be my prize at the 30-day threshold. All of the promised olfactory strength and ability to detect nuanced scents has returned. It seemed choosing the new Zippo scent would have had a lot of karmic juice, and it’s supposed to be suitable for both men and women.
Canadian News Reports | Top 5 Yolkobsens Smell Like The Zippo Teen Spirit
Yolkobsens are all fired up to learn that Zippo, one of the most iconic lighters in the world, is trying to turn around its dwindling fortunes as smokers, including Mrs. Y, pack in the deadly weed.
Readers of this blog will know I am now approaching one month of tobacco-free status. Clothing is a little tight from all the crap food I have been substituting for smokes, but I have persevered. One rule of quitting smoking is to reward yourself at abstinence milestones.

Unfortunately, it is not scheduled for availability in Canada until 2012. What is with this country? Meanwhile you can check out the reviews on our fashionablepress site. Apparently, it doesn’t smell like lighter fluid, but is in the woody aromatic fragrance zone.
In any case, it looks like I won’t be able to get a bottle for my personal anti-smoking celebration. One thing’s for sure; I will not be choosing any celebrity brand cologne. I have yet to smell one I would even use to deodorize the kitchen catcher bags under the sink. From Liz Taylor to Sarah Jessica Parker and from Beyoncé to Britney Spears, it’s all really noxious, lacking in subtlety and the leathery whisperings I’m attracted to.
These brands, Liz’s excepted, are targeted to the younger under 30 woman, someone who still has a disposable income allotment for personal adornment in all its forms. These celebrity bombs, which cost on average $50 a bottle, all smell green, fruity or floral. But, like all cheap cologne they are flat rather than complex. They have no multi-dimensional story to tell as they gently dissipate over the day or evening.
Although the market for the cheaper celebrity brand is declining, the higher end products are picking up momentum. I don’t understand why women pay so much for these celeb brands. Is it the sheer association that makes purchasers think that the perfume namesake’s lifestyle, backlighting, airbrushing, professional trainers, cosmetic interventions and perfect bone structure will somehow shine a light on them?
Like people who think jazz stopped with Coltrane and Miles Davis, I think there is very little new that I like. Although I have said I would reward myself with something new, I will likely go back to old time favorites, like YSL’s Rive Gauche, which I wore when I was under 30 and will occasionally spray on blue days while walking through a department store.
Jo Malone’s Grapefruit is a current favorite. It has the magical capability of starting off as a citrus and morphing into musky subterfuge after a few minutes. It’s different at any point in the day when you give it a whiff. Besides, you can usually get a free sample at Holt Renfrew where the counter staff will gladly give you a sweet little spray flacon. Trick is not to go too many times to the same well if you recognize the staffer. There’s one guy who’s started to be a complete sourpuss to Mrs. Y, who pleads indecision each time she asks for another sample. But most of the staff is nice about it. So you can test-drive a number of samples for a few days. Smart.
As for Celine Dion or Queen Latifah, they would have to pay me to wear them.
The American brand of lighters Zippo created in 1932 in Bradford, PA have launched their debut fragrance for Men called Zippo The Original. The brand put emphasis on the iconicity of the lighter’s design and reveal that they have even taken pains to reproduce “the famous Zippo click” so as to recreate the sensory experience of flipping open a genuine Zippo…
