This is about how an ethnographer observes and writes.
A Memorable Day at Carmel Beach, California
It was on the 4th of March, 2009, a bright Sunny day, when I had to get ready for Church as usual and I heard mama screaming on top of her voice. That’s how my wake-up call goes in for the first time. She made several attempts to wake me up by ringing the door-bell, asking me to gather myself downstairs as she is always busy doing some therapy with oils. When she heard no more from me, I heard her call my aunt Bessie, asking her if she had any plans for the day so that they both could go for a stroll while coming back from the church.
I had been here for my friend’s wedding which took place in the Carmel River beach. The very sight of them felt so complete with that air of fresh love and many unknown eyes admiring the couple with their smile. I made up my mind to have my wedding here in this beautiful city with cypress trees everywhere and the beach so perfect to make one feel like in heaven. People of all sorts, whether it would be a scuba-diver having his best time or woman in their thirties, chattering about their wrinkle-uplift creams and ageing worries. The beach helps you walk ahead with a smile melting your tensions which is why I love spending time here especially the beach located at the end of Ocean Avenue, it being famous for families and friends to gather.
Apart from that, beach at Ocean Avenue doesn’t go by rules about dog leashes. That’s why one can see all dogs happy, sniffing with full concentration, cute and cuddly walking beside their owners.
Around my prayer time, I was actually in the beach, after convincing my mother for about two long hours for skipping my prayers would be the first and last. Though I have been here before, I never knew how it would be to experience in summer.
The paved stones and the old-fashioned cottages with the tourists from all over the world had not changed a bit. I felt my soul and heart at peace after a long time since last winter. As my professor mentioned about Ethnographers, exciting notion popped up in my head because without my knowledge, I was actually being an Ethnographer, I mean observing and different thoughts were rolling in my head looking at the high school spiky hair guy running around and the woman in her mid-thirties sat wrapped up in her own thoughts. I saw more of seals and just then I over heard a conversation and found it quite interesting. It was where the girl was fussing regarding food that it would be better if they stopped by n bought sandwiches and drinks which are unavailable.
