My CASI test…if Uniforms should be mandatory in public schools. (Gr.8).
Should Uniforms Be Mandatory In Public Schools?
1. I think that if everyone in the world wore all the same stuff, the world would be lacking some serious imagination. However, in high schools nowadays, you have to wear the same clothes as everybody else! If we all had to wear the same stuff in elementary schools as well, being the same could be a seriously negative benefactor in later life. The school board’s executives think it would be a good thing because it would “stop violence due to bullying other children about their clothes”, but I’ve never seen a case of this actually happening. The real reason there is violence in the school system is due to an uneven distribution of power (height and weight come into play as well). Freedom to dress is a child’s right, and uniforms, in my opinion, are stifling creativity! Clothes don’t distract students, they only really distract teachers, and we kids don’t wear clothes with an intent to distract others while they’re taking a test. The biggest argument the school board has isn’t even valid! Brand-name clothes are not a source of violence, nor will they ever be in my time as a student. We are all different, and we should be able to wear whatever we want to!
2. The main idea of this essay is to prove the point that uniforms should not be implemented in our public schools. I know this because throughout his essay, he shuns the belief of uniforms, and supports freedom to dress. He gives points that the school board makes and fights them with valid logic. The main idea is also, at the same time, supporting student creativity. These topics go hand-in-hand because not wearing uniforms can lead to creativity via clothing.
3. A) They are used to surround a term that is being debated.
B) It is used to separate a statement from a question.
C) Whole point
D) overly graphic
4. Reason 1: They are proving a point in their writing. [I would have to say that the idea of forcing every student to wear the exact same clothes as all the other students is absolutely ridiculous.]
Reason 2: It is non-fiction. [The topic of school uniforms has stirred up a lot of controversy in our public school systems.]
Reason 3: There are main debated points. [The fact is that clothes do not distract the students, they just bother the teachers.]
