Challenger, Endeavor, Discovery: My Story

On a hot summers day in the state of Florida three men set to change reality as we know it while the world watched in awestruck anticipation, glaring at their grainy television screens and listening to their radios in death defying silence. On that day the phrase “the sky is the limit” was shattered and new aspirational heights were in need of definition while men, women, and children of all race joined together in admiration.

The world changed on July 20th 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin collaboratively journeyed to the moons shimmering surface.

“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

We cannot deny that these events are not one of humanities greatest achievements, excluding the Big Mac and Total Wipeout! However, skeptics (or “realists” as they like to be called) are always present, where you may be familiar with the comment made by an apparently respectable business man on the BBC reality show “The Apprentice”. Here, the interviewer, in reply to the candidates opinion as “a big fish in a small pond” says:

“You’re not a big fish. You’re not a big fish. You’re not even a fish.”

Perhaps this “successful” executive is correct, and is appearing on national television to catch up with the undoubtedly slightly more successful critic Simon Cowell. Either way, there are equally critical people in the world who argue that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are in-fact:

“Not an Astronaut. Definitely not an astronaut. Not even an astrologist.”

We can of course, ignore the multimillion dollar projects credibility and further agree that these men are not astronauts, leading to the hypothesis that the entire moon landing was a hoax. On the other hand, one in their right mind can automatically see this as nonsense, just like when we know that email from amazingdeals4you.com is undeniably spam. This form of junk mail has often confused me, and I think I’ve deduced it to three key explanations:

1. Severe sense of wrongness

2. The lack of a film crew on the moon

3. Jealousy

Now, the first goes without saying for all conspiracy theorists. The second point involves the belief that there are several strange occurrences in the broadcast. This could perhaps be solved by a team of Oscar winning film crew that NASA unfortunately had no room for and is also based on the idea that many of the background seems to be very similar. They forget however that it’s a rock. A moon. There are no visible differences between point A and B.
