Failures

Listening to CNN and NTA news here in Nigeria, I got to realize that the UN interaction of diverse concerns in the charter though successful in many areas of the human’s life, plays out thus:
- To settle the issue between the unification of North and South Korea
- They also  fail to resolve the dispute over Kashmir between India and the Pakistan
- The War in Palestine is another good example of the ineffectiveness of the UN
- The rightful government of Greece was aided by the US, in defeating the unhappy communists… though a mission had been sent by the UN, it was largely unsuccessful in calming the civil war
- When Hungary wanted to shift from communism to its own version of socialism and began democratic reforms, Soviet troops invaded the country. The USSR vetoed the resolution for the Security Council’s call to withdraw its troops, and even though the Uniting for Peace resolution was passed, the Soviets refused to co-operate
- Also rather significantly, the Iraq war, where the US invaded Iraq even though the UN had not given the green light, why could the UN not been able to prevent US?

Focus of the Charter

 The UN charter focuses on the work of the UN and the dignity and human rights of the persons as spells out in chapter IX, International Economic and Social co-operation {Article55}. Where the need to create conditions of stability and well-being as a vital tool for peaceful and friendly interactions amongst Nations centered on respect for the rule of equal rights and self-determination of persons is highly recognized.

Here the UN shall work to promote:
Higher standard of living, full employment, and condition of economic and social progress and development;
Solutions of international economic, social, health and related problems; and international and cultural and educational cooperation; and
Universal respect for, and observance of, human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.

Rules for participation in ECOSOC for both Government and Non-Government organizations is strictly based on:
invitation, without vote – by the ECOSOC, {Article 69}
Suitable arrangements for consultations with the concerned agencies, {Article 71}
The decision of the commissions set up by ECOSOC in its two fields, {Article 68}
Adoption of ECOSOC rules of procedure, including the way of choosing its president, {P.1, article 71}
The request of the majority members of ECOSOC after its meetings as required in accordance with its rules, {P.2, Article 72}

 With due respect to matters falling within the competence of the General Assembly. I would, with all boldness and determination, having taking into cognizance the core principle of the World Youth Alliance: promoting the dignity of the person, work to pass a statement of opinion through ECOSOC to be recommended by the General Assembly for the WYA.
