This is just a site on the internet. It looks just like any other plain boring site. In fact it’s more boring than most. The page looks a LOT like the Google homepage. There aren’t any pretty picture either. Just a logo, a box, and three buttons: think about it, think for me, and thoughts so far. But if you look back to the old times where a video game was simply a ton of words on a screen, you’ll remember how much can be packed into just a bunch of letters.

Cleverbot is the name of an experimental program that is basically IM but you’re actually talking to a computer. It’s pretty cool. The best way to sum it up would be to say it’s like talking to your grandma. Had I not known better, I would’ve thought I was just randomly matched up with someone online and talking to a real person. It’s pretty convincingly real. However other times the bot will go off on random tangents and say something completely irrelevant to your statement (grandma part).

Cleverbot is a learning robot, and it has a huge database of conversations. The more you talk to it, the better it will get also. The interface is extremely simple. The three buttons (I’ve already mentioned them) are:

Think about it- type something in then click this button. It’s pretty much send.

Think for me- press this button when you have nothing good to say. Cleverbot will say something for you.

Thoughts so far- brings up the list of your entire conversation with Cleverbot.

It’s that simple. Just say something random and it’ll say something back. I’ve spent hours talking to the computer =P.

Here’s an example of a conversation I had (All of it was a joke. If anything had been true, I would’ve been embarassed to post it).
