The importance of reading the fine print when making a big purchase.
Everything on the sale’s rack isn’t always the better buy. While it may be tidious, reading the fine print and the warranty of your product could serve you well at the checkout counter. Take for example, purchasing a new aero-dynamic bed.
Manufactures and department stores are counting on you needing the befenits of the product at any cost. If you read the fine print before buying you could go home with what you need at the price you want or at least that is more suitable to you.
Don’t let a salesperson rush you through a sale. That’s part of the job, but they are required to answer all of your questions including allowing you to review a hardcopy of a warranty. The same is true for buying online. Here a lot of people fall prey to the assumption that the online discount is always cheaper.
In this particular case of aero-dynamic beds, the online list price was cheaper than the department store discount, but the extra money was in the warranty. While the department store limited warranty covers the bed and most of its repairs at no additional cost to the customer, the warranty of the online bed allows the manufacturer to make a profit of over 4.8 times the purchase price for a maximum 20 year period.
That means with an online purchase of $700 in 20 years of the warranty you will have paid out approximately $3360 or almost never send it for repairs.
If you have a set budget for big purchases make sure you don’t over look delivery fees, taxes, and extras that maybe not be included in the warranty.
All those mattress try-outs in the department store won’t cover how much you’ll toss and turn over paying too much.
