In India, there are various types of snacks. Among them Dal Ka Seera is one of them. The taste is sweet. The snack is somehow indifferent.

Ingredients of Dal Ka Seera:

500 grams of Green Moong Dal

500 grams of Ghee

Elachi Powder

500 grams of Sugar

Saffron (to be soaked in little milk)

250 ml. of Water

How to prepare Dal Ka Seera:

At first, soak the green moong dal for 5 to 6 hours.

Removing the skins, wash the dal well.

In an electric or stone grinder or mixer, grind the dal finely.

Use the water as little as possible.

Boil the sugar and water in a pan.

After dissolving the sugar, add few tablespoons of milk.

The scum will be raised when the syrup will boil.

Take a filter and remove them.

Make them boiled until the syrup becomes gummy within the fingers.

Make the ghee heated in a heavy vessel and then add the dal.

Continue stirring rigorously so as to avoid the burning.

When the dal will stop sticking into the vessel, gradually stir them until they become golden brown colored. The ghee will also start separating.

Pouring the hot syrup, add dissolved saffron and elachi.

Carefully stir them so that the hand may not be scalded.

Cook slowly until the whole water is soaked up.

Now dress them with dry chopped fruits.

Dal Ka Seera is ready. Try to serve it hot particularly on cold days.

I like this recipe very much. One question: Does squashing the soaked dal remove the skin completely? Or, it is ok to leave some of the skins on the dal itself?

Can I use the yellow dal (dehusked) instead?
