The continued threat of terrorism.
Is it in the 21st century that man will finally destroy themselves? The clock is ticking. Is time running out for humanity? Can mankind withstand the continued brutality, savagery, and the carnage that is spreading all over the world? Will man cease behaving like termites and stop destroying the only planet that supports all life that we know? Finally, will nations truly find balance and harmony with each other? Pondering questions for all to consider. These are indeed dangerous times. The continued violence on our city streets to the conflicts on distant shores never seems to end. Epitaph upon epitaph is read over fallen soldiers will continue as long as mankind remains on it’s current path. The ultimate sacrifice by so many is testament to the horrific carnage that is sweeping across the plains of humanity. The escalation of terrorists to willingly cause so much devastation and destruction of life and property any hope of eradicating these atrocities still remains so elusive. Nation after nation continues to languish in some sort of economic depravation with little hope of regaining all that was lost. As those nations continually face certain economic devastation, civil unrest, anxiety amidst lost opportunities will certainly escalate. Rouge nations such as Iran and North Korea and there are others continue to amass nuclear weapons that could be used to threaten the sanctity of life any where in the world. It is these nations that have and are still harboring terrorist groups and organizations that continually carry out their diabolical plans against all humanity. These are just a few instances and facts that are shaping the decisions made by leaders of nations today. The decisions made will dictate tomorrows future for mankind. Even with all the advances in science and technology today there is still too much distention, discord and even a certain amount of animosity toward governments of nations. A new realization that has shaped our world occurred following the September 11th attack is that the United States can no longer assume that evil intentions only surface in isolated areas so removed from the American public. 79 years ago the attack on Pearl Harbor sparked a fervor of emotion that resounded all across the world that only complete eradication of forces that threaten the freedoms and sanctity of life anywhere must be accomplished. There can be no substitute for complete victory over the forces of evil. Almost 10 years following 9/11 the fervor of emotion following the initial carnage brought about by terrorists has faded. No longer are the emotions that rallied the nation and the rest of the free world those 79 years ago in the forefront of our policies and intentions today. The intensity and the urgency to respond following Pearl Harbor have been long replaced by complacency and apathy in the years following 9/11. Sure there is some movement toward finding and stopping insurgents but now where near the physical and emotional level that followed Pearl Harbor. One can only assume that where there is at any moment anywhere in the world the capability of terrorist activity there is compliance and accomplice of individuals, organizations and even nations that activity encourages, supports, and participates in those violent acts. The recent attempt by one individual to carry out a large scale violent attack in Portland Oregon is but a small fraction of what these terrorist are capable of. Questions remain unanswered. Like, where did this individual acquire the funding for all the equipment needed? This one question seems to be the root of any terrorist operation. Where is the money coming from to support all these activities? So far the United States has failed in two counts. First: the un preparedness of our troops to succeed once deployed in those distant lands and second: to coordinate with other nations on finding the sources of funding and put a stop at this seemingly unlimited flow of capitol from ever reaching all these terrorist groups. Granted there has been some attempts but all we have done is put a small plug in the massive deluge of funds that are supporting individuals, organizations, and nations that carry out terrorist activities. With all the unrest, economic troubles and social upheavals through-out the world today there hasn’t been much attention paid to the very acute similarities between the era just prior to Pearl Harbor and now. Back then we were just coming out of the worst economic catastrophe in our history. Much like today. The only difference is that today we aren’t out of the woods yet in securing our economic stability. None the less the United States is still the world power when it comes to our military almost like we were at the time of Pearl Harbor. All the ill fated attempts at finding the source or sources of revenue that finds it’s way to support the likes of Al-Quida, the Taliban and all the other groups, organizations and nations has yet to produce significant results in curtailing the onslaught of violent atrocities. Not only are we continually failing to find and putting an end to these insurgents but where we do find forces that are bent in destruction our military especially the ground forces are not supplied with the equipment developed to have the capabilities to successfully complete their mission such as the latest state of the art body armor. If every one of our ground forces in place like Afghanistan and Iraq along with all the technology to re enforce our military the tragic loss of life would be much less and the quicker we would be in stopping and eliminating those who are bent on destroying life and property. For years now the United States has led a most futile attempt in trying to stem the tide of all the mayhem that is continually spreading. It is time for every citizen to ignite our elected officials into decisive action with the authentic resolve to coordinate with other nations to find and stop the sources of funding that continues to flow to those organizations, individuals and nations that support, sponsor and contribute to terrorism. Like FDR and Winston Churchill before in their determined resolve following the attack on Pearl Harbor to eradicate all the forces that were destroying life and freedoms around the world this time the President must show the same determination and resolve to end the threat of terrorism. Once this is finally accomplished then the threat of terrorism will finally begin to be eliminated and the sanctity of life will be preserved. In this way nations can now really focus upon all the other urgent matters that continue to curtail populations from being economically stable and prosperous.
