Article about the differences of death-core and death metal.
I walk into an empty dark concert hall; I am the first person here. I get my spot front row center stage. The room fills as a flood of black shirt wearing people serge in and hit the stage like a tidal wave breaks on rocky shore. Shirts read; “I’m going to fill a pillowcase full of soap and beat you to death”, “I Killed Everyone” and “fuck god believe in yourself”. Not one of these seemingly angry people are angry at all. The room fills with friendly banter and how-do-you-dos, because no one is in a bad mood. We all know what we came here to see and we all understand one another. We are here to watch a Deathcore show.
The Stage is set and Whitechaple is ready to play. Phil, the vocalist, grabs his mic and screams. It’s begun. The band moves with such synchronicity as they head band scream and guitar flip even the steps they take back and forth. The crowd responds with Jumping screaming along all the lyrics as well as two pits one for moshing and one for hardcore dancing (or 2 stepping). The band has the crowd in a complete trance anything they tell us to do will get done; this could be fighting, splitting the room down the middle and charging each other, as far as to make the person next to you bleed. These same people we just asked simple get to know questions too. At the end of the night most people are broken, bruised, bleeding, and covered in sweat, but the most bizarre trait among us was the happiest look on our drained faces. We are the devoted fans of death metals most brutal subgenre we are the fans of Deathcore.
Deathcore and Death metal may sound the same to some, but to those who listen more carefully with a trained ear can hear a substantial difference. The devil is in the details and there are so many within this genre of death metal created in 1983 via the band Death and Deathcore created in 2003 with credit given to All Shall Perish. There are differences in vocal style, instrument and musical composition. Deathcore is relatively new but growing by the second.
