Religion – now a myth or reality?
Religion has become an issue of worry for many people due to the modernisation of today’s society. The word “religion” derived from the Latin noun “religio” – which denotes both earnest observance of ritual obligations and an inward spirit of reverence – is actually the belief in a superhuman controlling power, especially in a personal God or gods entitled to obedience and worship. But nowadays, is it fair to say that human beings cannot live without religion or can they?
As a matter of fact, the non-religious and atheists make up about 15.5% along with the other religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism of the world. Today, science has developed so much that seeing its success, gradually more and more people are getting attracted to logical explanations and scientific solutions rather than consulting their religious customs and traditions. For example, if a couple after several prayers and sacrifices still do not get the boon of a child, their wish can then be fulfilled by the test-tube baby method. Hence, in many similar cases where religion sent the believers empty-handed and where science provided the answer, those people are likely to lost faith in their God and thus live without religion.

Also due to the continuous introduction of modern, sophisticated technology in almost every situation in the daily life, human beings have become materialistic. The refrigerator, washing machine, microwave, television, and the personal computer are now considered as mere commodities. Obviously, the vulnerable youngsters, unemployed persons are the perfect victims of the bad influence of the mass media. Most of the weak individuals either fall into violence, drugs, prostitution or become murderers, rapists; criminals in short. This eventually leads to a decline in moral values which is in fact, a great disappointment to any religion be it Hinduism or Islam, Buddhism or Christianity.
