Well now that the geese have been euthanized, the craziness really begins. 

First there’s the memorial service, then there’s the news articles about both the memorial and the euthanization from all over the state of Oregon (not to mention forum posts from as far away as Florida).

The bleeding heart liberals and environmentalists are not upset about the memorial service. They aren’t upset that the city of Bend, Oregon spent $22,000.00 last year solely to clean up goose feces.

They are upset that the geese were euthanized in the first place.

Here’s an idea: maybe they could volunteer to come to Bend and clean up the goose feces…..for FREE. Actually they would be paying for motels and food so they would be paying the city of Bend (directly and indirectly, since we have a room tax) for the privilege of cleaning up goose crap.

I doubt they will be interested in volunteering though since even the dumbest environmentalist and bleeding heart liberal knows that goose crap carries a LOT of nasty diseases.

The other 3 parasites that are normally in goose feces are no picnic either.

Symptoms of an infection caused by giardia include diarrhea, excess gas, stomach cramps or nausea.  These symptoms can last from 2-6 weeks.

Coliform bacteria include the extremely harmful E Coli, which has been implicated in outbreaks involving the ingestion of spinach, lettuce, and tomatoes in recent year.  Symptoms of a infection caused by all types of coliformn bacteria include stomach cramps and bloody diarrhea.

Campylobacter has been implicated in the spontaneous abortion of sheep and cattle fetuses, and is also one of the main causes of food borne disease in many developed countries.

Even if the goose crap was pure as pure could be with no disease-causing properties, the geese can produce up to 3 pounds per day per bird.

One hundred Canada geese can produce up to 300 pounds of goose crap per day, or up to 109, 500 pounds per year.

Then there’s the fact the remaining Canada geese are known for being territorial. 

Canada geese will chase and bite humans with little or no provocation.  The bites are painful, can cause bruising and can draw blood

Canada geese have been known to beat people with their wings, which by the way are not soft and can create nasty bruises.

And the environmentalists and bleeding heart liberals ignore the fact that these birds should not even be here, hanging around in an urban park –in 90 degree plus heat too–waiting to be fed.

Normal healthy Canada geese would have migrated to colder climates months ago.  These birds are year round residents of the parks in question because intelligence-challenged people started feeding them years ago.

And the resident bleeding heart liberals and environmentalists seem to think that this is a new problem.  Goose crap was already a problem when I walked through one of the parks on my way to school in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades (I am now 50 years old, do the math) and my parents had warned me as early as 1964 to stay away from the Canada geese as they would bite and chase.
