What do Albert Einstein and gastropods have in common?
Answer : a statue in Ulm.

ULM, in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg, is famous for its minster, with the world’s highest church spire and as the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Unlike Salzburg where the visitor cannot escape reminders of its famous son, Mozart, Ulm is shy, almost secretive, about its super star. Tucked away in the Bahnhofstrasse is Einstein’s birthplace, fronted by a bizarre statue of our hero.

.

I think Albert would have been amused by this representation, after all, this face is the most famous of his portraits, being that which has which adorns popular posters, T-shirts and other memorabilia.

But the humour is tempered by mounting the image on a bomb casing – a sober reminder of  how scientific advancements are so often seduced for military applications.
