Elemental Swordplay is a novel I have been meaning to write for a long time, this is just the introduction. Constructive criticism and proof reading are welcome.
Synopsis: The story follows the adventures of a boy called Frank who ventures into a popular virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game.
It is a cool winter morning in Sword Senior High School and in one of the classrooms a young boy aged 15 is about to give a speech to his fellow classmates.
“Good morning everyone, my speech today is on my favourite game, Elemental Swordplay. Many of you have heard of this game, for those who haven’t I will explain the basic idea behind it. Elemental Swordplay is a massive multiplayer online virtual reality role-playing game or mmovrrpg for short. Unlike an ordinary mmorpg the only stat is mana. When you enter the game world you have the same physical ability as in the real world and dying is the same as in real life. When you enter for the first time you have the opportunity to do a tutorial which allows you to experience every skill in the game. This helps players choose what abilities they want to use, abilities are permanent and you only get two, so this is very important. When choosing your starting abilities you are given 5 points, each ability is worth a given number of points depending on how powerful or useful the ability is. I have printed out a piece of paper for every other student here, it contains a list of all the abilities and their point values along with a description of what they do.”
———————————————————————————————————————
Telekinesis: Allows a player to move an object with their mind from a distance, object moves as if the player were using their strongest arm. 2 points.
Rock Materialisation: The materialisation of rock in any form the player imagines, mana usage based on the amount of rock used. 3 points.
Strengthen: Passive skill, increases player’s physical ability by 0.5% per level. 4 points.
Ice Materialisation: The materialisation of ice in any form the player imagines, mana usage based on the amount of ice used. 2 points.
Fire Materialisation: The materialisation of fire in any form the player imagines, mana usage based on the amount of fire used. Warning: Fire can’t kill players or monsters, it can only melt ice. 1 point.
Diamond Materialisation: The materialisation of diamond in any form the player imagines, mana usage based on the amount of diamond used, very high mana usage. 4 points.
Detect monster: Shows the player all nearby monsters, range increases with level. 1 point.
Monster Tamer: Ability to tame one monster at a time, monster must be below players level. Tamed monsters level up and get stronger by 0.5% per level, only costs mana to capture something. 4 points.
Extra Mana: Every level the player receives more mana. 1 point.

“If any of you start playing or are already playing you are welcome to join my guild. Thanks for listening to my speech.”
Everyone in class applauds.
The teacher stood up with a look of approval. “Well done Jeremy, that was an excellent speech”
“Okay everyone that was the last speech for today, the siren will go any se-” Just as the teacher was about to finish, the loud screeching school siren went, causing all the students to almost simultaneously rush out the door.
Frank, a 15 year old boy, with brown hair and eyes hurriedly packed away his things and rushed to the door.
On his way home Frank began thinking about the game Jeremy had talked about in his speech, he thought it would be awesome to fight and use magic. Frank entered his house. His father was sitting in the living room watching television. “Hi Frank, how was school today son?”
“Great dad, one of my friends gave a speech about a game called Elemental Swordplay. I was wondering if you could buy it for me, pleassssssssse.”
“Can you tell me about the game first?”
Frank then shows his dad the piece of paper Jeremy handed out. “It is a massive multiplayer online virtual reality role-playing game and your physical ability is the same in the game as in real life! On that piece of paper is a list of all the abilities. This game will let me try out the sword fighting skills I have learned in school.”
“You seem very enthusiastic about this game, if it means that much to you, I will buy it for you.”
The next day Frank and his father go to the shops to buy the game. Without Frank finding out his father buys two copies of the game, one for himself and one for Frank. When they get home Frank goes to his room to login.
