Subscription is not necessary, but it allows you to access the forums and the competitions— as in upload your photos. You can keep them up for modification (!) so you know what your photo could be. And thus, you learn.

You’ll also learn a lot at the forums: general photography techniques, techniques specific to digital photography, gadgets and models and such, image editing issues… pretty much everything. And the competitions ! Submit your photograph to pit it against some of the coolest, most
breathtaking photos we’ve seen.
