A reminder to the living about the attributes of the diseased.
EPITAPH
No one wishes to die but death is a necessary necessity hence, it is the final price humanity must pay. When it occurs, it is often felt with mixed feelings but it must be. What cannot be borne must be endured.
The sad news of the demise of a young dynamic and promising young Benjamin was a rude shock to all but nothing anyone could do to avert it. Tears flowed like water. Mucous rushed like river. Wailing was everywhere. All these were indication that he meant a lot to the people he left behind but that could not stop his exit.
What to do to remember him and to stay within the heart of those he was dear to was the immediate cause of concern. Whether he should be apostrophized or otherwise was another area of interest. Having racked the brain so much, the need for an epitaph was agreed upon.
The unknown thing was what should we inscribe on it? It is painful if not gory to lose someone dear. It makes one loses his sense of consciousness and concentration to an extent.
At the verge of this comes the word, ‘Today is your turn, whose turn will it be tomorrow? You will ever be there on our mind. Sleep on the Lord’s bosom till that glorious morning.’
Amid tears and pain whether to let go or remain was a disturbing factor. But it must go, dust you are that you must go back to. That inscription weakened everyone. Why? Know it that nobody wants to die talk of epitaph. But the reminder of the epitaph is that today is Benjamin turn, tomorrow may be yours. The fear there is, who will be the next? Is it you or i?
Whether we like it or not it is a supreme price we must pay one at a time. The epitaph is a thing which does not go with all except for those whose conduct was felt by the people. Do you need an epitaph when you die? What will be inscribed there? With what will you be remembered?
In conclusion, epitaph is a symbol of affection to a diseased one and a reminder to all of what he/she stood for during the period of being on earth. We all must die but not all of us will have an epitaph. Do you need one? Work for it now!
