Faith as more than hope or trust, but a belief with action.
From the Makers of the Universe there comes a timeless product! The ancients, scholars and philosophers discussed it in glowing terms – a little word called “faith”. Faith: it is the ability to move mountains. Faith: it is the ability to act on the unseen evidence of successful hope. Faith: it is belief with action; belief with attitude; belief with anticipation.
You cannot separate faith from belief. The two are Siamese Twins in the spiritual realm. But faith is distinguished from belief in that it is belief with action. This “Belief with Action” is propelled by expectation. When you have faith you expect that you will be successful in achieving your goals. Another word for this expectant attitude is “Confidence”
“He who has no confidence”, Marcus Garvey once wrote, “is twice defeated in the race of life”. Confidence is the critical x factor in that which turns a contender into a champion. This expectancy, this driving passion to achieve and belief in success is what’s needed in those who are seeking to elevate their circumstance. You must KNOW that you can make it!
Then faith is belief with attitude. But not just any old attitude: Positive attitude. Attitude is mindset. It is where your mind is directed. If you make up your mind that you can succeed, then your disposition towards others and circumstances will show it. Your words will show it. Nothing reveals a man’s attitude like the words that flow from his mouth!
If a man has a negative attitude, negative words will flow from his mouth. He will say things like: “I can’t stand this”, “I can’t take this”, or “I’ll never make it”. These then become self-fulfilling prophecies that become realities. Words do have power.
Those who harbor an attitude of faith, reveal it through their habitual speech. You will often hear them speak in terms of what they CAN do and what IS possible. They are always talking in terms of making things happen. I heard a principle say once that there are three types of people in our world: “ those that make things happen, those that watch things happen and those that ask; “what happened?”” Faith will place you in the first category. You will actually begin to make things happen. You won’t be content to watch as circumstances shift and put you at a disadvantage. Faith will energize you to push for change.
Then last but least, faith is belief with anticipation. Faith will cause you to anticipate victory no matter how difficult the struggle. This faith will be the self- motivating factor allowing one to maintain courage despite adverse and unfavorable circumstances. Faith looks forward to the finished problems in spite of challenges and resistance. It is almost like a spiritual sight that causes one to be able to move smoothly from struggle to struggle without the nagging inclination to give up and throw in the towel when there seems to be no positive reinforcements in sight.
Faith, therefore, is closely intertwined with belief. It is belief with action, belief with attitude, belief with anticipation. It gives one the ability to fight on towards victory in spite of very discouraging circumstances and fierce resistance. It is the root of confidence, which helps one achieve victory. That’s the power of faith. It moves mountains. It moves circumstances. It moves men to a higher level.
