Family based.

Life wasn’t easy around there. My parents died a few years ago, so that meant that I had to live in the town’s orphanage.  Every day was like yesterday. Wake up, go to school, come back, eat and sleep. That was pretty much our daily routine. But today was going to be different. You see, a few days ago I was doing those things and now I live in an actual house with real people. This is the story of how I changed from an orphan to a normal boy.

I was at school resting my head on a book while the rest of the class were watching ‘Shrek’, when I was smacked in the head by the boy behind me. Normally I wouldn’t start anything but the sentence he said just after I was hit stirred me up, “stop dreaming about your parents”. I could feel the rage build up inside me. Now I was really angry.

I was just about to give him a taste of his own medicine when suddenly the teacher called “Johnson, stop right there” I sat there in silence. I put my hand down slowly, “go to see the principal right now!”  I was speechless; I had never been in so much trouble before. I just stood up and walked slowly towards the principal’s office.

“Johnson, I don’t know what has gotten into you, wait here. I need to talk with your teacher for one moment” the principal yelled. I just wanted to run away. I could hear them talking outside.

At that moment I had an urge to do something very naughty. I snuck behind the teacher’s desk and opened the draw. There, was a sheet of paper “Johnson Skywood, Parents = deceased, Brother = 81 Hollow Green Ave”. I stared in shock. I had an older brother who lived 2 streets away. That day I walked out of school with my first detention slip. Instead of going back to the orphanage like all the other orphans I walked towards Hollow Green Ave.

As I was walking there I felt excited. Finally after about 3 years I was going to see a family member.

I walked up the driveway and knocked on the door. Nobody was home. I sat there next to the door waiting.

It was dark and I couldn’t see much. But at that moment I saw head lights turn into the driveway of the house. I stood up. A tall dark figure stepped out of the car. I ran up to him and hugged him. It was definitely my brother because it felt like I was hugging my dad “Are you Michael Skywood?’’ I asked, “Yes, and who are you?” he replied, “I’m your brother Johnson Skywood”.

I could see him smiling as he walked my inside his house. It looked like a warm comfortable place that I could now call ‘Home’.

I woke up to a nice aroma of waffles. We were going to visit mum and dad today.

We walked up to their grave and lay flowers down. I could feel the warmth of when my mother hugged me, but then a pain to my stomach, which was my dad; we use to wrestle each other.

It was like they hadn’t gone anywhere and it was true. They were still in my heart.
