Its a job get off my back! No one is too good to work!

So my first day on cashier they have me train with someone, again it was almost exactly like a CBL except hand written but I couldn’t just set down the headphones to silence the voice.
It takes a couple hours to be “trained” again on the register and they place me on one to cover a break, it was very self explanatory, almost like playing with a child’s toy that directed you in large letters flashy lights and noises exactly what to do along with rewarding hidden sounds when you got it right. I noticed the receipt tape makes almost like a musical bear when printing. What a great idea make the employee want to hear the sound for completing the transaction correctly. Which I don’t believe most employees or customers realize the sound unless you actually listen and look for it.

So I’m on the cash register and nearly half the people coming through the line are using food stamps, now they make them like a debit card so the person feels less inferior when using it I guess but also to prevent the ability to sell them as easily. I’m not trying to be judgmental only trying to point out things I noticed.
Working the cash register was very boring and monogamous, I expressed to them management I would prefer not have cashier shifts and be able to move around, they told me once I got on service desk I would be able to move around a bit more and have more things to do rather than run a register, I glanced over at the service desk and noticed they were moving quite a bit at busy times so I replied with a smile and a nod.

After being on the cash register for about an hour maybe less a member of management pulls me off the register in order to “zone” and “spread” the items. Basically go to each check out line and be sure there are at least one of each item in each spot in order to meet the store standard or something of the sort. So I was taking candy bars and moving them to other isles along with lighters, chap stick, small toys, and other impulsive nick knacks to fill the shelves. Doing this task took me to the end of my day and when it came time for me to go I told them it was time for me to leave and left with a smile and a wave.

So I’m thinking this isn’t so bad, stocking shelves I was left to myself and not bothered, sort of nice, keeping my chin up looking on the bright side still, who knows maybe I’ll be a manager one day (lol)

sorry for the on going drag of starting this job but I believe most jobs have their own agonizing first week or 2 training bullshit. I promise this will get more exciting once I dip into the people I work with and encounter…
