Leaving three young daughters alone, so to speak, after being ousted from the Supremes and then divorced could have left Florence with a worry on the last moments of her life……….
And it seems that every movie about a group has to have a tragic fat girl to pick on, kick her out of the group and have the generic tragic results. That is in Black movies about girl groups. There was another such movie without the title called Sparkle and it was a similar formula. Skinny girl makes good, so-called Fat girl makes bad. It’s a shame that no one has any more creativity than that.
Just leave Florence alone is all I want to appeal to people. I have heard for a little over a year that Faith Evans will reprise the role of Florence Ballard and this time, it seems loosely possible that Flo’s daughters will get a piece of the pie. I haven’t heard anything more. After all, they just may have to compete with that award-winning Dream Girls movie of a few years back. I saw this so-called great movie and was NOT impressed but it still encourages people, generations later, with no knowledge of the Supreme’s life at Motown, to hotly portray Diana Ross as the Villain, along with Berry or anyone that may imply that there was a lot of blame to go around! That could be why they are dragging their feet, so to speak. At any rate, I hope Florence’s daughters who seem well mannered and kindly enough, to start living and not in the wreck and ruin of a beautiful woman gone too soon. I believe she would want to see them do better. Please, for everyone’s sanity, stop with the Dream Girl theme. It is becoming a living NIGHTMARE! Peace.
