When we dream it is because our mind is working, for some it is looking for answers, while others are seeking memories; many dream about flying, where are you flying to?

What does flying in your dream mean, well it has a lot to do with where you are in your life. There are three phases of what is happening when you dream about flying, the first part is when things are going your way, while the second part is when things are not well or falling apart. The last part of flight while dreaming is not very common, for it may be giving an insight to the future, or some nostalgia from the past.

While having had dreams of flying which represented a freedom or a change in favor of what was hoped for; this achievements for some may not be that clear or appreciated. Having always viewed flying free to mean that what is being hoped for, will come easily, but not without some effort. While dreaming, if you notice the area that you are flying over was done with ease, it will mean success in some form, is heading in your direction. If it appears that, you’re flying over your job; then perhaps there is a promotion in order, if the area in unrecognized but is beautiful then perhaps you’re about to move, to a like able area. If in your dream you are flying just above the level of the highest trees, but coasting the in your subconscious you are aware that everything is doing all right in your life, even though there are some obstacles. Just keep flapping those wings and in time you will have achieved your dreams and goals, if your are recovering from a period of sickness, then your dream is telling you that everything will be OK, just give it some time. While some dreams the person is physically flying others may be flying in an airplane, and the higher the altitude the more recognition you are expecting from a person job well done or from your employer or spouse. If the plane is just floating along then it is your hope that you will either get help from those around you during a difficult period, or support in a person matter.

Perhaps in the dream your flying along doing just fine, the trees are green, along with the grass, and the wildflowers are bold in their yellow, orange and purple and sudden your descending is telling you to get back on course. Have you recent taken on a new endeavor, or working on a new business idea, and you have lost heart and may have given up a little, even a lot? If so your subconscious mind is telling that deep in your heart, you don’t want to give up, not just yet! Your subconscious mind may tell you in that even with set back not to give up. How do your know the difference, well the dream is not about losing altitude but about having double flying, keeping the altitude and getting to your destination. This is because your lacking faith in your own ability. If while your flying you hit weather problems this will determine what your course of action will be for the situation on hand. While the sun is an indication of good things, don’t believe that rain is a sign of bad, because rainwater can also represent a cleansing period or new beginning. The worse has to be when you are attempting to take off and you are unable to, because you are overwhelmed and frustrated. You’re attempting too many things at once, and the body and soul; along with your subconscious mind cannot handle it all. At this point it would benefit the dreamer who is unable to take off, to make some changes by un-cluttering their life, organizing their home or office, and reset attainable goals

Very interesting article! I don’t think I have dreams where I’m flying, but it’s good to know what they could possibly mean if I do have them.

Thanks for the insight. When I was young my first apartment was an old house split down the middle. I lived there four years while I was in college. I am almost 50 and at least once to twice a year I dream of this old house. I usually own it and have redone it and my husband and I now live in it. A few years ago on a visit back to my hometown I went to see if the house was still there. It was and is still split with offices in it. I had hoped seeing it again would stop the dreams. It did not. Isn’t that strange?

A very informative and interesting article. Who would have thought deams of flying could have so many meanings?

  • fishfry aka Elizabeth Figueroa on Sep 8, 2009

Visiting a home whether old or new, has many meanings, I believe that there is something in your sub conscious mind that you have consciously or subconsciously decided to lock away, ponder the years in that house. Compare it to where you are living now, is there something about where your are living that you dislike.
If the dream is not upsetting you, then perhaps it is just bring you back to happier times?
