Some people know what they want to be when they grow up, others don’t, but most feel unconfident about making their dreams come true. An inspirational article about reaching for your goals and two books I recommend for inspirational reading.
Ever since I was 13, I wanted to become a player for the New York Yankees, or generally, for any major league team. I’m only 15, and I still have all my dreams and career ahead of me. I’m still practicing, I’m throwing straight and far, I improved my swing, and I naturally run fast with a 114 lb. body. I still long for this dream because baseball is what I love to do.
This article isn’t just about my dreams, don’t get me wrong, I just wanna show you my dream and how I live off of it in a positive fashion so that you can learn to do the same. You, yea you, may always have wanted to become a teacher, social worker, lawyer, or even the President of America. Its what we long for, and it shouldn’t be brought down by what other people say, cause other people have big dreams too. People always tell me, “Your never going to make the team,” which hurts me because it is from people I know, but I snap out of it and think to myself, “I’m sure people call him/her crazy if they told out their dreams and goals.”
You should always set your goals high. If your getting a B average in your algebra class, don’t agree that it is good enough and sit down, try to get that A so that you can feel more positive when achieving your other goals. Also, you shouldn’t be afraid to fail. Failure is just another way of laying a foundation for later on successes. Once their was a Nike ad and it featured NBA legend, Mike Jordan walking down a hall to the locker room while he said to himself:
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game=winning shot. And missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life… And that is why I succeed.”
M.J., one of the most well-known and best NBA players in America has failed all those times, but he never gave up on his dreams or his goals. Also, Mike never made the high school Basketball team, but did that stop him? No. He practiced his heart out for his life-long dream. And so can you. Study for that A in math, become the most loyal lawyer that the federal court has ever witnessed, become that pop star you always wanted to be. It’ll never come to you by luck or chance, it comes to you with love for what you are doing and with the passion, determination, and skill needed to be the best. Even Derek Jeter, the best Yankee player since Babe Ruth, has made failures, but built on them. During his first years in the Minor Leagues, he made 56 errors. 56, can you believe that? Jeter making that many errors in a year would be disheartening and discouraging, but he never let that get him down, and now, he is the Captain, shortstop, and Mr. Spirit of the NY Yanks.
