Answers to all the objections that keep you from starting a journal.

“Can I have it for keeps?” Whenever a yes answer came after that question, the result was always positive. Expressions such as writing a journal, creating a journal, holding a journal, or taking a journal are rare. Instead, the words are “keep a journal.”

Journals have been kept for thousands of years. From cave writings to online blogs, there is a need for self expression. Still, there is hesitation. One finds oneself saying yet another question from the “for keeps” era, (say it with a whine for best effect) “But why?”

But Why?

  • Because: you said so, and you’ve got more to say than so

  • Because: it is good therapy

  • Because: you shouldn’t keep secrets from yourself

  • Because: you have a desire, a goal, a need in your life

  • Because: (although it exists) you don’t know your desires, goals and needs in your life

  • Because: we all have a story

  • Because: you like reading about things and people you know

  • Because: journals, specifically your journal, can heal your spirit, your mind, and even your body

  • Because: creativity grows in journals

Don’t be a “scared-y cat.” Begin your journal and enjoy the process.
