How the Chicano culture came together in the 1960’s to be a unit in the United States and to be their own nation in the world.

In the beginning of our Mexican-American heritage, is a creation that started in the deep past. I believe that our creation started before The Chicano Movement. Our ancestors the Mexica Indians occupied these lands, bringing about the theory that the midlands of the United States were the lost lands of Azland. Our Mestizo ancestors (the Mexicans) occupied the West coast to midlands for centuries before the Mexican-American War forced president Hidalgo to sign over almost half of our land to the United States. In 1848, 100,000 Mexicanos were left to become Americans weather they liked it or not. I consider our predecessors, as well as our people of modern times, began their journey of recognition, as a people be that Chicano or Mexican- American; the start of our endeavors from this land and from our own land to become Chicanos, independent with equal rights under God and nation.

After the Mexicans-American War and after the many Mexicanos that were left to became  part of a nation, they fought against and had no intentions of being a part of, were abruptly formed into a people that slowly drifted from the mainland and slowly drifted from the old means of the Mexicanos only to survive the new nation that was forced upon them. Once you contemplate the concept of what the difference is between Mexicano and Mexican-American, you’ll see for yourself that we as Mexican-Americans haven’t fell too far from the tree. But there are a substantial amount of evident ways of the Mexican-American that prove that we have rolled far enough from the tree to be distinguished from the Mexican, e.g,. some Mexican-Americans lost the language or have never been taught the language. Than again, a lot of Mexican-Americans speak Spanish and speak English. Our ways of life differs as far as we aren’t farmers any longer or  gardeners. We have abundantly lost that technique decades ago, being the fact that our lands were taken from us after the war; we had no reason to maintain the technique in the small compact barrios we were sent to live. From my view, there’s not much difference between Mexicanos and Mexican-Americans. obviously, we have the same blood line and the same ancestry. We only have a different pronoun and choice of life styles and difference in opinions and ways of life. A lot of Mexicanos say that we aren’t true Mexicanos because we have lost the old ways of life and choose not to look back, which sparked a lot of controversy between us and them in the early 60’s that prompt our official departure.
