Just my thoughts on Braces, I am 15 years old by the way so if your teen is getting them you might want to read this.
When I was first told I would be getting braces, I was excited becuase I needed them. I have a horrible overbite and my teeth are a little crooked. After awhile as time got closer to me getting braces I was kinda scared because of all the stories about how bad they hurt. So with all those thouhts I didn’t want braces even if they fixed my teeth.
The time came to visit the orthodonist to see if he approved of me getting braces which he did aprove. Then I had to wait to see what the state said about it, you do this if you use a medical card, and they approved and payed all the charges for them. Then the time came to get the braces on.
Well since I had an overbite I had to get two teeth removed so the rest could move back, which was alittle painful but not that much. Then it was time to get the real braces on. I got the brackets* on first then I got my t-bar* and wires*. It didn’t hurt at all! They glue the brackets on and the t-bar does hurt alittle but not much. The wires just slide on in to the brackets. They are a little sore afterwards but not that bad. You can eat and everything. You go back every month to change the rubber bands (which means new colors) and here and there they change the wwires and add more things to with your braces depending on how bad your teeth are. I just got a spring put on mine but it’s like it’s not even there, and didn’t hurt a bit. Everytime you go your mouth might be sore for a little while but not for long.
VERY IMPORTANT: Remember the list the orthadonist gives you, follow those rules if not you might have to wear your braces even longer.
*Brackets- Where the rubber bands go.. most places you can pick the colors you want for the rubber bands.
*T-Bar- the bar that goest across the roof of your mouth.
*Wires- Well they are the wires that go through your brackets.
