Around the year 3000 BCE, the people of that era built a city on a tower that would reach the Heavens. Probably they did not know how high the Heavens were or possibly the distance between Earth and Moon. But it was their hope. God intervened and stopped this project, called "The tower of Babel." But our modern generation is attempting to repeat this game!
Go Higher and Higher but You will Never Touch the Moon
You would have heard about a Biblical record that God destroyed the Earth and every man, woman, child and animal on it in a flood that lasted forty days. All except Noah and his family members had perished in the waters. This happened around 2900 BCE
According to the archives, the tallest building that was built in the pre-Noah era was only 4.1 meters or roughly 13 feet. After the deluge, the descendants of Noah moved Eastwards and came to a plain called Shinar. They wanted to build a city here and had planned a structure that would reach the Heavens. The next purpose could have been, to survive any further flood. So, they used bricks and tar instead of stones and mortar. The Holy Bible does not tell us the height they had reached; surely several times greater than 4.1 meters, possibly around d 30 meters.. God did not like this plan at all. He wanted to stop this great aerial city. At that time there was only one common language among the people. God intervened and made them talk in different tongues to prevent them from communicating with each other and the building work stopped. This tower is known by the name “Tower of Babel” – Tower of confusion.
In modern times also there is a craze to build tall structures; all of them are not for residence, office, hotels and shops nor to escape another world wide inundation but for setting a record. Some are simple masts, some TV towers and so on.
The Empire state building or the twin towers in Kula Lumpur are not the tallest buildings in the world as many believe. They are only 403 meters (1250 feet) and 457 meters (1500 feet) high respectively. Here is some relevant information on the tallest buildings and towers of the 600 meter varieties.
