Aussie bus company stuns staff with bonus.

Melbourne business share sale proceeds with stunned staff, the Grenda Corporation recently sold off its transit operations after 66 years and gave the 1800 employees a share of the A$15 Million generated by the sale. Perplexed staff thought the pay office or their banks had made a mistake when up to A$30,000 was credited to their accounts, this reducing some workers to tears.

Today Grenda was portrayed as Australia’s “best boss” but played down the gesture, instead paying tribute to his staff, “A business is only as good as its people, and our people are fantastic,” he said.” This is to recognise that, we have had people here who are second generation (with the company) and one fellow has been in the same job for 52 years. The business has grown from four bus routes in 1945 to operating 1300 buses Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, you only get there if you have good people.”

Mr Grenda said the response has been fantastic, one said they had a huge amount of bills and you have suddenly got  me out of a hole, staff who had worked  with Grenda  for three months or more pocketed anywhere from about A$1000 to A$30,000 before tax.

The company last year sold its transit operations for about A$400 million, Grenda is also Australia’s largest bus maker, building about 600 buses a year. A Grenda bus driver was with the company for just 10 months, received A$850 bonus and said he was delighted with his bonus, good bosses are hard to find, and Grenda is one of a kind.
