Talk is cheap yet we fall for the rhetoric every time.

The headline read that 63 per cent of the young people who listened to President Obama last night felt he was successful. Of cause, the headline was flawed, How about the young people who played video games because ” Glee” wasn’t on? How do they feel about him? What about the older voters whose opinions were not surveyed, how do they feel he did? The media will aways try to make lemonade out of Democratic lemons. I did not listen to the address. Unfortunately I had to work. This allowed me to be open minded about the reactions that I heard today. In turn, I was taught a very valuable life lesson.

My sister was in awe of the president. She felt he made his point definitively. There was nothing that he said that she did not applaud. There was love in her voice as she assured me that he was going to be re-elected. She still believes that he shall accomplish those “changes” he promised three years ago.

Jennifer, a pragmatic acquaintance reacted positively toward the subject matter of the speech and of cause to our president’s “gift of gab” . She acknowledged that the “corrections” he suggested were in sync with her own philosophy and especially enjoyed the planned abolishment of insider training that has made our politicians rich and greedy. Her comment was “If only he could”. She questioned President Obama had the might to accomplish his goals. There again she talked about his articulate presentation.

Larry lifts weights at my gym. He is from Brooklyn, uses slang and curse words to make his point and watched only 15 minutes of the address before renting “Contagion”. ” I turned him off when I got sick of that sincere act he pulls. If he cares so much why hasn’t he done shit for the middle class so far? What the F…… has he been doing for the last three years?.” Larry is unemployed and a part of the shrinking middle class that must be saved. “Obama can talk a good talk” Larry had said. There was still that something positive.

How important it is to be an articulate public speaker. Even your worst enemy is at a loss. Prose that is emotionally charged can turn the head of a person with a negative mindset. Although the voice is not the window to the heart and soul, people assume they are in sync. An articulate person will always have an advantage. To me, despite his curses and faulty grammar, Larry made the strongest point.
