Graffiti Art or Not

Graffiti today is as we know, vandalism. Graffiti is most for giving signs of gangs, to show who owns territory that belongs to their gang. On the other hand, graffiti is a way to express yourself. Most kids like to use spray paints to draw things they see. But before this time graffiti was also used to get word out about causes around a city and is carried onto this day. To me graffiti is art, I do see it allot these days while driving around. Some of it is explicit, but I often see painting certain areas such as seagulls or beaches, or the Initials of a certain area (O.B, S.D).

Kids do enjoy doing graffiti, but sadly some kids like to go out and vandalize private property. I’m not trying to say graffiti is the best way to express yourself, the cost is pretty hefty to clean graffiti up throughout the city and public areas. But the city does try its best to use kid’s talents. A child that was convicted on vandalizing private property was directed to a “graffiti cleanup details supervised by the police department”. So the court had the child instead make a piece of art against violence and drugs and the it was reported that the child did a great job in doing so. The only thing about these programs and graffiti cleanup costs millions for the government, and that means tax payers have to pay for it.

There are many counters to sides to this argument, although the side against graffiti has a very strong viewpoint. Most people in the town l live in are against graffiti.    They Say it’s a horrible sight to see around the city and very costly. When I see graffiti, I see art, a person trying to express what they believe in. On one side they do bring up about it being “costly” is very true. But instead of penalizing the person, shouldn’t we use their talents to help the community rather than have kids behind bars. Although most of graffiti is to express some violence to about gangs and their “Turf”. Graffiti can be used to cause a lot of violence and death to other rival gang its their way of saying or sending a message.

Graffiti is one of the most popular ways to let a child express him/her self. Not only can you draw what you think, you can send messages around the city. Graffiti is a great way to tell people how you feel anything. It’s just starts to become a problem when they make the step to write on walls that do not belong to them. But other then that, it just an amazing way to show your art to everyone. So the main reason people like to graffiti, is because they can be mad about a certain thing. That is also why they may vandalism city property of a certain building having to do with that problem.
