Just a short but heartfelt note to my guardian angel.

Your eyes follow me every morning when I walk to work. They study my every move. How I juggle the quarters to complete the bus fare. How my fingers scroll my choice of music for the fifteen-minute-wait: Céline Dion, Juan Luis Guerra, or Cheb Khaled?

They wish me a good day as I turn the key to open the front door, and I hesitate for a second before setting foot in the 30+ steps that take me to my money nest. They watch as I go forward, step back, smile at, frown upon, and generally manifest towards the public that shows up.

Every addition, every subtraction, every division and multiplication of contracts, summary reports, financial statements, do not go by unnoticed by your vigilant sight. It’s a scrutinizing gaze that protects me, and reminds me constantly that I’m never alone.

Under your watch, I, once again, turn the key to close my day. I march home, in a quiet bubble that isolates me from the rest of the world. For a moment, I feel cozily invisible to the rest of humankind. I sway in a state of inner peace as I become one with my natural surroundings, and I exclude any mundane element that might disrupt my communion with the Almighty.

But today, my eyes made contact with yours and, for a second, time stopped. A million thoughts pressed against the walls of my head. However, only one thing mattered: there was no use in feeding senseless fears- none of them could cause me any harm; only myself. As long as I understood that, I would be safe.

Now, the most sincere feeling of gratitude overwhelms me. Nothing compares to the glorious feeling of knowing that I’m blessed by your guardianship.

… you’ve given me everything you have; you’ve given me light.
