Gun Control is out of control in this country. We need to revamp our current way of thinking.
Gun control is out of control. In this day and age, gun control has become an utter nightmare to all concerned. There are those who believe that nobody should own a gun, those that believe every person should own a gun, those in the middle that have beliefs on who should own a gun, and everywhere in between. It’s time we take another look into this issue. It’s not about all or none. Our gun control system definitely needs to be revamped.
What troubles me are all the new laws and requirements associated with this issue. It is completely ridiculous. Being a retired law enforcement professional, I feel I have some reasonable insight on this topic. Here are some things that bother me. For instance, there are thousands of former law enforcement and military personnel who are prohibited from owning firearms. Why is that? It’s because the government feels that if they have any type of psychological issues from there service with law enforcement or the military, that they are no longer competent enough to own or possess firearms. Let’s take a look at this issue. Persons in law enforcement and the military have put their lives on the line, usually for many years, and at the end of their thankless service, they are told that they are no longer human, because they have psychological issues. What person wouldn’t have some issues after being through what these people have been through? I’m sure the issues were present during a large part of their careers. I know mine were. If mine were, then I’m sure others can relate to this as well. Why is it that we were all required to carry a firearm until the point when we terminated service? Why is it that now that we are no longer “in service” that we are not capable of owning, possessing, or using firearms?
The people making these laws can sit back in their cushy chairs, sipping some yuppie style liquor, and put a pen to paper calling us all crazy. They can sit in the comfort of their offices and homes and make these ludicrous decisions. They can do this, because the men and women of law enforcement and the military have protected them and kept them safe. They have put their lives on the line to protect and serve all involved. They have died doing this. They have been injured doing this. They have lost brothers and sisters in their respective fields because of this. They have lost marriages due to issues caused by their service. If it wasn’t for law enforcement and the military, none of us could sit back comfortably and bitch about someone owning a firearm. Wake up people! Everyone on earth has had a “bad day” at some point. If you say you haven’t, they you are nothing but a liar and hypocrite. The only difference between most persons and those labeled as a “mental defective” is that those labeled as “mental defectives” have sought, or received, help with their issues. Being a “mental defective” should not be, on the basis of the label alone, a reason to prohibit someone from owning a firearm.
