It is unhealthy to think that everyone is being a part of a crowd.

We live in a society that we live and die by public image and what is considered to be fashionable. It is all well and good that we present a decent public image. Some people take that image thing a bit too far in the wrong direction. They find themselves perhaps wishing for a life of glamor. Therefore, they wish to latch onto a popular fashion. Perhaps one that is previously worn by a celebrity. It is very easy to fall into the trap of following the one’s we admire. It does come at a price.

The price we have for following what is popular is losing who we are. We lose the sense of everything that has made us unique to begin with. We want to fall into the right crowd. We want to make friends. We feel pressures to make those friends, as those who are popular are considered to be acceptable generally in society. Therefore certain standards must be established.

What we fail to realize is that these people are not becoming friends with us. They are becoming friends with someone who we are not. It is only longer our life that we live. It is the life of a person who is a template for what society considers to be popular. So what if everyone else is doing it as well? The majority can make a bad decision.

We only need to answer to one person. That person is ourselves. The latest fashion trends might not be us. That is alright. We need to shed society’s expectations. Instead of living an empty, meaningless life, it is important to live the life of someone else. Not to become like those that we admire. Those that are admired do what they do because it works for them. They start the trend and many follow it.

Society has many flaws. The biggest flaw is everyone’s attempts to emulate what is popular. It leads to something that is stagnate. Where each and every one of us loses our individuality and falls into a trap that we cannot get out of. There is still time. We need to feel comfortable in our own skin. Turn away from the glamor and turn to the mirror. The person staring back at you is who matters.

    Great article!
And I must admit that I completely agree with you. Loosing the individual identity.
Like I have said a million times (in my life).
Well Girls are we just amazingly individual, while we flip through H&M T-shirt hanger, with the same T-shirt in a million colours… It is the group mentality at play.

The term Lemmings comes to mind when I read this article. I\\\’ve strived my whole life to never follow trends but to be a trend setter.
