Not really a article but a question.

Hello everyone in the world of literature, poetry, short stories, art and photography, sorry if I have missed anyone, this is not an article as such but a question, the question is why is it that I have for the last couple of weeks been working all day every day adding friends, adding photo’s articles and poems, and also reading and commenting on lots of other peoples articles, in fact doing everything I should be doing and not even passed my first dollar,

I have read situations where people have been getting payments in excess of $100, what am I doing wrong,

I am a guy trying to subsidise my income as I am unable to work for the next couple of months or so, due to suffering from sciatica and waiting for a forthcoming operation to get be back on track for work again. Thanks for reading my sob story and please let me know your thoughts

Thanks

Misery loves company? I’m doing what you’re doing and I can see a little progress. Hang in there – and best of luck!

    Takes time.
It is not enough to write articles, but you have to learn how to promote them.
Post links to them on your FB account (if you have one).
Make sure if you read a piece on Triond to leave a comment.
    Stick with it.

I don’t make much on Triond, but I forgot about it for about two years. I posted some articles and pictures in 2009 and then never came back until last December. They sent me a small payment last July though. Some sites penilize their writers if they are inactive, Triond does not. I like that. I also like the idea of generating a passive income and am not really in a rush about it because I own several websites anyway, one of which gets over 5,000 page views a month.

Anyway, I think that Triond offers a great potential for generating a passive income, but I think that you have to be in it for the long haul. If you want fast cash, this is not the best way to do it, but remember once your content is on the web it can be working for you indefinately, even while you are asleep.

This is just my opinion Paperboy and I may be accused of knowing dip-sh@# about it, but I think you need to be writing for the search engines because if the search engines like your content they will keep sending you traffic. Everybody goes on about backlinks, but I think that keywords are more important. If you build a new website nobody knows that it is there and it has no authority in the Google index, so backlinks are very important then, but at Triond we are publishing on established sites. Most of your work, for instance, is on Authspot. I’ve just checked and the Authspot homepage has a Google page rank of four. That is quite good. Google obviously respects the site enought to give it four out of ten and it will probably index most of the articles on the site without any need for you to submit the url to them. A lot of people go on about submitting urls to Google. There is no need. I never do and all my articles have been indexed. I know. I checked. In fact Google.com is my bigest refferer, followed by Google.co.uk, then Socyberty.

Take a look at your dashboard. Where is your traffic coming from? What is your top reffering site? If it is from Triond sites you are depending on fellow Triond writers to generate your page views. It needs to be Google.

You have posted some fantastic pictures at picable, but if you want pageviews you need to use the right keywords because that is what the serach engine looks at. You have, for instance a sketch of Mr Bean. Last month there were 1,830,000 Google searches using the search term ‘Mr Bean’ If I use those terms though I get over 24 million results. That is a lot of competition and it would be hard to get to the top of the first page of the results. Last month there were 5,400 searches for ‘Mr Bean Pictures’ and there is a competition of nearly 27, 000 for those search terms. That’s still a lot of competion, but if you use the search term ‘drawing of Mr bean’ you have less competion and it is an accurate description of your picture. Last month there were 1,600 searches for ‘drawing of mr bean’ and you only have 333 pages to compete with. That a lot better odds.

You need to think of the keywords. If you were looking for a picture of Mr Bean what would you type into the search bar? Think of all the terms you might use. Here is a link to a useful tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal If you type in a word or serch term you can see how many searches have been made.

Still thinking of keywords. A lot of your content is poetry and I think that poetry is a lot harder to make money from and short stories are not much better. Take your poem ‘Coming Home.’ How many people go to Google and use the search terms ‘coming home’? Or even ‘poem about coming home’ Probably not as many as those who are looking for ‘home decorating tips’ of ‘how to sell your home’ Aricles on these subjects would probably fair much better. Having said that I just checked and was surprised to see that there were 880 searches for ‘poem about coming home. There are about 25,000 pages to compete with, but if you add ‘poem about coming home’ to your tags, you may find that you get some of that traffic.

This is a long reply and like I said, anybody is welcome to say that I am full of sh@#, but I still think that keywords are the most important thing and that Google tool will help you with that. Hope this helps.
