Everyone’s had bad experiences in the past. The question is will we let them govern our futures.
She longed to say it, but she just couldn’t. Holding herself back was just another one of her harmful pastimes. She knew that opportunities were passing her by, and all she had to do to grab them was stretch out her delicate fingers, but still, she couldn’t do it. There wasn’t something wrong with her; she wasn’t born that way… It was just her past, she let it govern her. Lately she’d only been guided by her fears. That’s how it’d been since the wedding incident. It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, she’d been dreaming about it ever since she was a little girl. But, her worst fears had been confirmed on that terrible disaster of a day. He fiancé was cheating on her. Wedding off. Self-esteem down the drain. Tears streaming down her face night and day for the next month. Couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep. Everything she knew had changed. But now it’s been a year, and she knows she’s in for another big change. Really, it’s all up to her: she could either make the change something positive, or try to ignore it and hurt him in the process. Of course she knew how he felt about her; all the hand-picked flowers and cards with meaningful gifts and sweet moments and murmurs under the stars made it obvious. She’s always loved him and now… Now it was time to speak up. She looked deep into his eyes and knew he was sincere, but even still he had to admit saying yes would be taking a chance. Her eyes slipped down to her fingers. Oh God, how it was beautiful! It was silver, with three diamonds, a breathtaking yellow canary diamond in the middle that must have been worth thousands. He told her it was because she was his sunshine. She glanced back at his eyes thinking that he was waiting for an answer and must be getting more anxious by the second. It wasn’t fair to do this to him especially when she’d had the answer looping over and over again in her head. But, when she got back to his face all she saw was confidence. Confidence, and his signature heart-warming smile. I couldn’t help but smile back at him. He took my breath away… He took my fear away.
