”Three months. I was a temporary for a secretary out on workman’s compensation.”
“So you can type?”
“Ninety-five words a minute,” she said proudly. “One hundred if you don’t mind five
mistakes,” she added sheepishly.
He chuckled. “I like you. Okay, Miss Webb, I’m going to take a chance on you. When
can you start?”
She was startled and overwhelmed by how quickly he made his decision. “I.. well..
Right away, I guess.”
“Good. Now, I think it would be better if you lived and worked here,” he went on. “The
Agency mentioned that, did they not? I am considered something of an eccentric,” he said
with a bemused grin. “What that means to you is that I work odd hours sometimes. You
have no family obligations so you could stay here?”
“None That would be fine.” She was secretly overjoyed. Not only would she get her
