Some might consider it tragical, while others find it magical.

Lately I’ve been learning the fact that not all expats in Indonesia prefer local Indonesian women. Whenever they need to move to Indonesia, whether it is for work, business, or other reasons, some of them might brought their wives to stay here in Indonesia.

But not all expats fall in to those two categories. There were also expats who leave their wife at home, then keep their other wives here. Those other wives might be Indonesian, and might be not, just like that lady I’ve mentioned on the title.

Have you ever wonder, how much an other wife might get from their husband? An expat friend told me about her client which get about $5000 per month from her husband, while she might be a second, third, fourth or I don’t know, it very much depend on how many wives that guy have.

To think that the husband still need to provide their first wife’s needs, his other family members needs, and also his own needs, I think that $5000 per month amount is a little bit too much, considering that when I worked as an employee, I wouldn’t even manage to get that much money within a year. I was so curious that I asked what that lady supposed to do for her husband to get that amount of money every single month and my friend said, “Nothing. They live in separated apartments, so she just needs to be available for her husband whenever he comes, which is not so often.”

“Then what usually she does whenever her husband is not coming?” I asked again. My friend replied, “Enjoying comfortable home, visiting beauty saloon or clinic to take care of her beauty, shopping, chatting on line, playing games, having fun, etc.” Then I just said, “Wow!” without being able to say anything more, but thinking, “Like it or not, indeed such phenomenon really does available around us.”

I guess many ladies can’t resist the temptation of large sum of money every month and the opportunity to enjoy life in a leisurely way.

@LCM Linda: But not all ladies can be that lucky, while some might wouldn’t even want to do it for several reason.

I find it hard to believe that an educated professional working as hard as you do only makes less than $5,000 per year in salary! In the US, that is just a slight amount above the monthly salary for White Collar jobs, and I also tend to believe that the amount being told to you by this woman is highly exaggerated ….
While it is not uncommon for some workers to leave family at home and to send money back to care for them (be they working on a cruise ship or driving a tractor in Dubai), it is very unlikely the figure is correct in any way at all — especially with you own comparative observation shown to contrast.
I would not be surprised at the desire for such a lifestyle, but these unrealistic exaggerations only attest to the incongruence of the concept: they simply have been watching too much TV.
I also personally find it difficult that women in Indonesia (where family and tradition is valued very highly) would tolerate such a lifestyle too long, preferring to simply have their man home with them to live life fully as was intended. This is why most of those accepted to work overseas are either young and single (less ties to contend with) or older and more professional (so they can afford to travel back and forth more frequently).

Certainly I would prefer to be with my wife, and however I was able to provide financially for her, that would be the first priority: it is simply the integrity of the love for her, and a matter of self-respect.
