Have you ever had a mental block?

I have not written for quite sometimes now. One of the main reasons is probably the most common one that is I am going through a mental block, what most writers I believe will go through once in a while. And of course the other one is the lack of time that I need to sit in front of my computer and type my articles away, or having my green notebook in front of me with my blue pencil, trying to scribble words to form sentences that make sense.

A lot has been happening since I last posted my articles here. I do log in to Triond once in a while to read my friends’ articles and give my best comments to them and support them as they have supported me and I do read other articles in the “Hot List” which interest me and also gave a little thought of it in the comment segment.

While reading these articles, I thought about how these writers came out with ideas to write. There are plenty articles of course giving advises on what to write and how to write it and they were very useful but they are only guidelines as they say, the main idea will have to come from you. Those articles about health and medicines are useful to read and most of the writers are real doctors in profession. Then you have those who are retired, with a lot of experiences and knowledge to share.

So, as I was drinking coffee and hanging out with a friend of mine who is also a writer and asked what she does to be inspired and she said, “That’s easy, what is the most in your mind right now, that you think about when you wake up in the morning, when you were at work and when you hangout with your friends out family and even before you go to sleep, that’s what you should write about.”

I was confused at first because that is not a way to feel inspired but that is a way of getting an idea on what you want to write. And she said exactly! You have to have a starting point before you want to get inspired. For example, the main thing in my mind right now is about how people get ideas to write their articles every time and that what led me to meet up with my friend and ask her. I did not realize I was doing that until she told me. I never thought of writing an article about how to get inspired before this, but it has been in my mind for quite sometimes and why not I write about this topic.

You are right. We all at times suffer ‘mental block.’ But for me it depends on the mood. Sometimes we just write casually without deep involvement and produce a master piece and other times we make a solid effort but end up writing a usual ‘run of the mill’ stuff. I totally agree and appreciate the findings of your research. Marvelous article.

Hello and good article, we all become blocked and it’s amazing that if you are a writer the least little thing will inspire, a bug, a cup of coffee almost anything just need to keep focused.

Welcome back, miss your writing. I am inspired by this piece.
I don’t do research in writing, only do research in the pictures. I only write whatever in my mind, and I enjoy reading articles from writers who write what’s in their mind, I just can feel it when I read, and those are the articles I enjoy reading, including this piece.

Last night I had writer’s block. And when I experience it and I want to write I just go online and search for topics or creative prompts. If you want to get inspired, turn on your radio to the classical station. It works. Go for a walk, take a shower, eat something and come back to the task.

Feeling relaxed is a great way to get ideas flowing. I think that’s the main idea you are getting at with the music and the walks in nature. Thinking and forcing ideas out is mentally draining that causes mental block in the first place. At least that’s what I feel.:)

I read so much that I never run out of ideas, sometimes I just don’t want to read in depth about a subject I know little about. But I am usually reading a couple of books, newspapers and magazines so there is plenty out there.

Inspiration is available, sometimes you have to look for it but so much is going on every day.

It happens. Perhaps it’s our mind’s way of recharging or defragging.
