The Sweet Smell of Bitter Remembrance

(antithesis)

There once existed a man called The Creator; he also went by the name of Father Spirit. This man created the world and everything in it. He made the flowers, shaped the bushes and trees, dug out trenches for the oceans and commanded the sun and moon to rule the sky. But, Father Spirit thought it was a tragedy that no eyes gazed upon his beautiful creations. So, he brought about humans to walk the earth and rule over land and beast. His intention was to allow humans to build their own world and act upon their own will. Believing in this ideal, he cast a spell on himself so that he was prohibited from interfering directly with the actions of the human beings.

One man and one woman coexisted in the land called Paradise that Father Spirit had created for them. Frolicking from the field of flowers (alliteration) to the edge of the rivers, the man and woman were content with their carefree life together, and had grown quite fond of each other. It was evident to the birds, the mice, and even the deer that the man and woman loved each other; they could sense their emotions. And, so could the creator; for he too, like the man, treasured the woman. He could not help but note the olive color of the woman’s skin, her entrancing green eyes, and her laughter that forced everyone around her to succumb to fits of giggles. He loved her; the man and Father Spirit that is.

The Creator observed day after day the interactions between the lovers that his own two hands brought to life. When they laughed together, when they touched, Father Spirit felt like his heart was being torn out (hyperbole). This feeling tormented him and on the 400th day of human existence, no longer could he bear it. The man said but three words to his beloved on that day, “I love you.” A fiery rage began to ignite inside of The Creator and he could no long control his rage. As an act of impulse he drove himself to concoct a monstrous beast. It had beady eyes, the fire crackled (onomatopoeia)  as it exited it’s toothy grin, and the claws were sharpened to a lethal point. The dragon was massive and any mortal man standing at his feet might feel a bit  (understatement) frightened. Father Spirit whispered into the beast’s obedient ears “Kill the man.” With those words the gigantic wings beat against the air and carried the dragon through the sky on a destructive path towards the man.
