The author expresses what he does to maintain his sanity.
It never fails to amaze me just how much negativity there is in the world today. As I go to my destinations each day I observe so many things that people do that is not positve but is quite detrimental. It is not that I am looking for opportunities to judge I just happen to do a lot of thinking about why things are they way they are, why people feel the way they feel? Why they do the things they do even when it does nothing but cause them pain in the long run.
How often it has been said that “what the world needs now is love sweet love”, but what is actually experienced is a barrage of negative expressions either seen or heard whether is profanity and unwholesome words on the radio or from someone shouting profanity as the result of road rage. Why is there so much negativity in the world? And what can be done on an individual level so that one can have some level of contentment in life? And is this just something experienced in modern times? Well, the answer to that is no. A man a long time ago by the name of Job made this statement: “Man, born of woman is short-lived and glutted with agitation”. (Job 14:1) This was an observation made by someone living thousands of years ago, but those words are no less accurate today, in fact they are seen to be even more true in 2011 than ever before.
This is all quite interesting when we think about strides that have been made in modern medicine today, it is often said that people are living longer. But what is not said is that people are living longer while sick as the result of medications, medications that are not designed to solve the problem but are simple for the purpose of easing the symptoms, so that others can make more money off of that person before they do finally die. So are people living happier lives? sadly no. Not for the majority of people that although having worked for decades to provide a decent life for themselves at the age of 70 and above are forced to continue working. Or even worse perhaps are sentenced to being forced to leave their homes, yes those same homes they toiled for simply because no one is willing to make sure they have what they need even when they were provided for when they were little.
