An article trying to make sense out of all the how to information on the web.
The internet is filled with how to information. How to make money on line, how to have great sex, how to be a better parent. You get the picture. People need information and other people provide it for them.
Is all this information really necessary and to the point though? I often find myself looking for information on the web and just stumble upon the most irrelevant articles I could. Which of course pop up as relevant on my internet search.
On the one hand, there are all these people out there trying to make a living out of writing, which is completely understandable and legit. I am in no position to criticize as I am trying to do the same.
Is everyone qualified to write about everything though? With the power sites like Triond, Xomba, Hubpages, eHow etc. give writers, anyone is pretty much free to write about anything. Can they do it however?
I for example have no idea about and interest in electronics or cars. If I were to write an article about a car it would probably only be because I have an interest in a specific car and I would definitely not include technical information as I am in no position to elaborate on the subject. Why bore and mislead my readers when they could get specialized information about the same car elsewhere? Most importantly: why waste their time?
I am not suggesting that someone should be an expert in their chosen topic. If they are to write about something though, I feel that they owe it to their readers to make it a well researched article, especially if it entails technical, medical or other sort of specialized information.
When people look for how to information on the web it is because they want to get expert advice on how to do something. It is quite annoying and definitely a time waster when the results turn out to be irrelevant and off topic, misleading and, sometimes, even plagiarized.
Maybe if everyone made more of an effort to write about the topics they love the most and are most knowledgeable about, the web would be a much more user friendly place with quality information.
