Taiwanese smartphone giant HTC recently held a press conference in London, where they announced the addition of two new handsets to their fleet as well as a new online service for HTC phone owners.

The HTC Desire HD and Desire Z handsets were announced, as well as the new online service HTCSense.com. These are next in line as the big rivals for the iPhone.

The HTC Desire HD seems to be a clone of the HTC Evo 4G, but for GSM carriers, and without the ability to use a 4G network. It features a lot of the same specs that the EVO 4G does, such as the 1 GHZ Snapdragon processor,  8 megapixel camera, 720p video capture,  and  4.3 inch 480×800 display.  It does not have the front facing camera like the EVO, but it does have some other advantages. The Desire HD has 1.5 GB of internal storage, to the EVO’s 1 GB, and it has  768 MB of RAM to the EVO’s  512 MB. The only other differences I could find between the two was that the EVO had a larger capacity battery, which is probably essential  given how much the 4G radio drains the battery, and the Desire HD doesn’t have EVO’s famous kickstand.

The HTC Desire Z is a slider phone, with a 3.7 inch screen, 800 MHz processor, 1.5 GB internal storage, 5 megapixel camera, and 720p video capture. This phone is said to be modeled after T-Mobile’s G2, but unlike the G2, this phone will feature the new enhanced HTC Sense interface, that was also announced this week.  Look for the Desire HD and Desire Z to show up on Asian and European carriers in October, and then in North America possibly around the holidays.

The last thing that HTC announced was the coming launch of HTCSense.com. HTCSense.com is a new security and backup feature that will be available to HTC Users. The service appears to work much like Apple’s MobileMe service, as it allows for the ability to remotely locate a lost device on an online map, and lock or wipe it, while forwarding calls and messages to a different phone . It also allows the users to remotely make the phone ring very loudly, even if the phone is in silent mode. This will be excellent for those times you can’t find your phone because it slipped down the crack of a couch somewhere. The backup service supplied by HTCSense.com will allow users to completely back up all data on their phone as well.
